President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday unveiled the ₦47.9 trillion 2025 Budget Proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly, dubbing it "The Resurrection Budget: Security, Peace, Building Prosperity." The proposal prioritizes key sectors such as security, infrastructure, health, and education, signaling a commitment to tackling Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

In his 30-minute presentation, which concluded at 1:10 p.m., Tinubu highlighted major allocations in the budget, including ₦4.91 trillion for defence and security, ₦4.06 trillion for infrastructure, ₦3.5 trillion for education, and ₦2.4 trillion for health. These investments reflect the administration’s emphasis on addressing national security, improving public services, and bolstering economic development.

“Our 2025 budget is not just another statement of projected government revenue and expenditure; it is one that calls for action,” Tinubu declared, emphasizing the need for a united approach to overcome challenges. He noted that Nigeria faces existential threats such as corruption and insecurity but stressed that these issues can be resolved through collaboration and decisive action.

The President expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their resilience and commitment to reform over the past 18 months, pledging to ensure food security and eradicate hunger. “Food security is non-negotiable,” he stated, adding that the government is taking proactive steps to ensure Nigerians no longer go to bed hungry.

Tinubu underscored the urgency of the moment, stating, “The time for lamentation is over. The time to act is now.”

The President was accompanied to the budget presentation by top officials, including Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila. The event was initially scheduled for Tuesday but was rescheduled to Wednesday following a Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The proposed budget reflects Tinubu’s vision of economic renewal and transformation, aligning with his administration’s goals to restore peace, stability, and prosperity in Nigeria.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
