NIGERIA'S INTERNET DATA USAGE HITS 870,398 TERABYTES IN OCTOBER, MARKING STRONG RECOVERY
Nigeria's internet data consumption surged to 870,398.28 terabytes in October, rebounding from a dip to 850,249.09 terabytes in September, according to the latest report from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). This marks a significant recovery following the 0.82% decline in September, the first drop in internet usage recorded since February 2024.
The October figures highlight the immense scale of data consumption in the country, equivalent to over 870 million gigabytes. Alongside this surge, Nigeria's internet subscriber base grew by 1.88 million, rising to a total of 134.78 million users compared to 132.9 million in September.
Mobile networks continued to dominate the internet landscape, accounting for 134.27 million subscribers. Fixed wired and Voice Over Internet Protocol networks made up the remainder.
The growth in subscribers was led by MTN Nigeria, which added 1.13 million new users, bringing its total internet subscribers to 69.52 million in October. Airtel followed with an increase of 678,219 subscribers, reaching 45.47 million users, while Globacom gained 184,887 new users, pushing its total to 17.10 million. In contrast, 9mobile experienced a decline, with its internet subscriber base dropping by 125,780 to 2.16 million from 2.29 million in September.
Overall telephony subscriptions also saw a significant boost, increasing by 2.69 million to reach 157.37 million in October. MTN remained the market leader with 80.37 million subscribers, followed by Airtel at 54.44 million, Globacom at 19.10 million, and 9mobile at 3.33 million.
The latest data underscores the growing demand for internet services in Nigeria, driven by mobile connectivity and a robust telecoms sector.
